Technology

A water-resistant garment resists water intrusion but cannot guarantee that you will remain dry after being exposed to wet conditions for long periods of time. A water-repellent material is not easily penetrated by water and is treated for such a purpose with a surface coating. It offers a medium level of protection and is ideal for light rain or snow. A waterproof material is impervious to water and offers the highest level of protection in heavy rain and wet conditions.

Want to stay warmer longer outdoors? Our advanced Omni-Heat thermal-reflective technology is built to retain body heat, whether you’re running everyday errands in brisk weather or tackling epic adventures in blizzard conditions. It brings you next-dimensional warmth while offering a breathable garment with next-to-skin comfort.

Returns & exchanges

We will gladly accept returns on any purchase made on our website that is in original condition—unworn with tags attached—and for footwear with the original box in new condition within 30 days of purchase.

You may return your purchases at any of our stores or contact us to arrange collection via our courier. Shipping and handling charges for delivery and return shipping will not be refunded.

Once we receive your package, our team will verify its contents and inspect it to ensure it is unworn and in its original condition. We will then send the credit back to your financial institution within 7–10 business days. As you continue to seek out new adventures, your clothing and shoes will get exposed to elements like mud, sand, water, gravel, grass, snow, and salt, which can degrade your clothing and shoes. In order to protect your item and the unique technologies therein, please ensure you follow the wash instructions on your garment or visit “Product Care” for more information. We cannot honour warranty claims on products where the washing instructions have not been followed.

If you believe your purchase is faulty, please contact us to arrange a return or return it to one of our stores within 6 months of purchase with the original proof of purchase. We guarantee all items sold by us to show reasonable wear and tear. Repairs, returns, and credits will be sanctioned by the store manager in consultation with the customer and supplier.

Product

Yes, we do! Look out for garments stitched with our Omni-Heat Reflective Technology, which offers a thermal-reflective lining and synthetic insulation. These two powerful technologies team up to keep you toasty from your first track to your last chair. Unlike regular down materials, it consists of 35% reflective dot patterning, while the remaining 65% is a highly breathable fabric that dissipates moisture and excess heat to keep your body warm in the coldest of conditions.

The condition that you choose to hike in will ultimately determine the type of jacket you will need to consider wearing during your trek on the trails. If you are hiking in hot, dry weather, we recommend a lightweight, water-repellent, compressible jacket. If your destination has a likelihood of light rain, snow showers, or wind, you’ll need to opt for a water-repellent, softshell-type jacket, which provides sufficient protection if you are embarking on a day hike. For multi-day hikes, a waterproof and windproof jacket is best. If you are hiking in heavy rain or snow, you’ll require a waterproof jacket with excellent heat retention capabilities.

If you are doing a fairly easy trail, opt for light, flexible shoes that encourage the natural movement of your foot to reduce fatigue. If your trail demands more (i.e., uneven and offroad trails with a high ascent), you’ll need a boot with a stiffer outsole to give you more stability. A higher-cut shoe protects and supports your ankles. Rubber toes, heel protectors, side and instep protection, and thicker outsoles increase the durability of your hiking shoes but make them heavier. If you are planning to walk through rivers and wet conditions, opt for a water-resistant boot to prevent slipping. There are many factors that have an impact on choosing the right hiking boot.

Booney hats have wider brims to provide extra shade coverage. Bucket hats have taller crowns, making them more versatile style-wise. They can sit high on your head or be pulled down close to your eyes. Booney hats sometimes feature neck capes, but bucket hats usually don’t. Unlike bucket hats, booney hats often have chin straps. Booney hats are intended for hiking, camping, fishing, paddleboarding, or other outdoor pursuits, while bucket hats are also often worn in urban settings.

Leggings are often the best choice for easy day hikes, whereas more technical hikes or multiday excursions might require hiking pants that are more rugged.

There are three key differences between rain jackets and windbreakers:

Water resistance: As the name implies, rain jackets are specifically designed to take on the rain through waterproof or water-resistant fabric, while windbreakers aren’t made to withstand consistently wet conditions. Some windbreakers have water-resistant finishes that can keep light rain out for a short amount of time, but they’re not designed to be worn in continuous wet weather.

Number of layers: Rain jackets are constructed with multiple layers of fabric to keep you dry and may also include an insulating layer for warmth. Windbreakers, on the other hand, typically feature a single layer of fabric to repel the wind, though they can sometimes be lined for cooler temperatures.

Weight: The multiple waterproofing layers in rain jackets tend to make them a bit heavier, while windbreakers are extremely lightweight and often capable of being packed into their own pocket for storage.

Warranty & repair

Even though we design our products with longevity and durability in mind, mud, rain, snow, and the unforgiving elements will take their toll over a long period of time. We offer a limited lifetime warranty, which lasts for the practical life of the product or a minimum of six months.

Yes, we do offer repairs on products that have gone faulty due to defective workmanship within the first six months. Please email orders.columbia@ulkoactivewear.co.zawith a detailed description of your fault and photos.
